Ben's best albums of 2009

2009, What a year. Michael Jackson and Britney Murphy died, Tiger Woods’ private life got caught *insert witty golf sex joke*.

Phoenix - Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix

This album really plays on my “hipster indie” side, although its a very small part of my side it fills it with delight. Some songs are just incredibly pop with 1980's top 40 keyboard intros and others are as if the strokes and hot chip met in a bar and got into a brawl involving pool cues and glass bottles to the face. I was going to consider seeing them as most of their youtube appearances have been great but $80 seems alot for a band of which one album I have fallen for..... also its a festival hall...

St. Vincent – Actor

Sometimes I hate this album but other times I love it. The amount of crap to gold ratio is enough to keep it in my top 2009 albums. Theirs some real depth and incredible song writing, and instrumentation. And fat sax riffs. Also her use of disgusting screeching guitars appeals to me.... Maybe a little too much...

The Chariot - Wars and Rumors of Wars

The thing about the chariot is, they do it their way and they always do it right. No need for that "brutal chord" that every uses or sweep picking. While the rest of the early 2000s "metalcore" has gone down hill alot with everything single thing being triggered, over produced everything and drop A tunings, these guys have stayed gritty as all hell. They're also great at keeping their youtube page up to date, unlike alot of bands. Can't wait til they get to Australia... Hopefully in 2010....

Grizzly Bear - Veckatimest

I really like this album but i think its been severely overrated. Its fantastic in every way shape and form. Production is exquisite and song writing is insane but it just reeks of an album create a few years back by this little band called the Beatles. This whole review seems to be extremely hypocritical in essence so I'll stop talking. To each his own....

*p.s. i really like this album

Matt and Kim - Grand

If you haven't heard this album you would of definitely of heard "Daylight" somewhere. Commercials, video games etc. Its an extremely catchy album, sort of in the same vein as Los Campensinos, White stripes, Phoenix. - Although it's nothing like any of these at the same time. Check it.

Here is a list of albums I should of listened to before making this list because friends have said I would of like them…..

And so I watched you from afar - And so I watched you from afar

Isis – Wavering Radiant

Mastodon – Crack the Skye

The end...
