Jac's Album's of 2009

So Ben asked me to document my favourite CD's of 2009 so here goes in no particular order

All Time Low - Nothing Personal

I hated this CD when I first heard it, and yes, it's overproduced, has enough saccharine to kill a small dog and extremely cliche and generic, but it's a grower and I feel has these guys ahead of the pack of generic 'pop punk' bands that seem to be appearing left right and centre like trailer trash spawn

And Then There Were None - Who Speaks For Planet Earth?
Soaring Post-hardcore singing vocals backed by hardstyle trance?
A fan of both I took to this CD like a fly to a 4 day old pizza slice casuallyleaning off a window-sill and it has been on constant rotation since. The CD as a whole is solid, with a couple of songs that are just plain terrible, but they are saved by a plethora of solid songs.

Closure In Moscow - First Temple
An excellent debut from the local lads, released shortly after they relocated to the U.S.A to broaden their horizons. This CD has quite the early Mars Volta (de-loused) influence throughout but the band make it their own sound with some really, REALLY complicated rhythms and some lovely guitar flourishes throughout. I'm curious to see what these guys do in the future, considering their first offering is appetizingly solid. Yum

Cobra Starship - Hot Mess
This Album is just FUN
Like a slip 'n' slide on the moon
The songs are all silly and don't really have substance, but it has cheerleader sing-a-longs, and amusing lyrics, and sometimes that's just what you need.

Dance Gavin Dance - Happiness

Ashamedly the first CD I heard from Dance Gavin Dance, but surely enough it blew me away. The arrangements are just so perfect, varied and each member contributes an equal amount to every song resulting in an amalgamation that really earns them the title of 'a band's band'. Most people can't get over the fact there is yelling in most of the songs, but it is only another colour in the palette the band uses to define their sound, it's truly a great record, perhaps one of the best i've ever heard.

A Day To Remember - Homesick

Apart from the first song on this CD, I loved this album, 2009 was the year of 'pop-mosh' and while I don't think this 'genre' will be around for very long, it sure was a lot of fun, can't wait to see them at Soundwave. Here's hoping I get that volunteer position *fingers crossed*

More to come as I get around to it, but for now, sleep.
Love
Jac Fieldlings
